Tips & advice from Kelowna Electricians at Epic Electric

When it comes to saving energy, no other light source can compare with LEDs. They use as little as 15% of the energy of conventional lighting. Right now there are some fantastic LED products on the market that are easy to install and offer a number of benefits when it comes to lighting your home.

Why LED?

Lifetime
As solid-state light sources, LEDs have very long lifetimes and are generally very robust. While incandescent bulbs may have an expected lifetime of 1000 hours, LEDs are often quoted of having a lifetime of up to 100,000 hours – more than 11 years. However, this figure can be misleading; like all other light sources, the performance of LEDs degrades over time, and this degradation is strongly affected by factors such as operating current and temperature.

Low maintenance
The long lifetime of LEDs reduces the need to replace failed lamps, and this can lead to significant savings of time and money. This also makes LED fixtures useful for installation in relatively inaccessible locations.

Environmentally Friendly
LEDs are high-efficiency light sources; the low power consumption of LEDs can lead to significant energy savings over time. Also LEDs contain no lead, mercury, or PCBs. Switching from regular incandescent bulbs to LEDs is one way to incorporate sustainable green practices into your home or business.

Heat
LEDs don’t produce heat in the form of infrared radiation, which is what makes incandescent bulbs hot to the touch. The absence of IR radiation allows LED fixtures to be positioned in locations where heating from conventional sources would cause a particular problem.

Customizability
The principal advantage of LED slim lights is their customizability. Because of their thinness and the way that the LEDs are fixed into the panel itself, they can be used for applications where the use of traditional incandescent lighting would be difficult or impossible.
